marmorei. The original building, which might date back to the 17th century, is the transept to which the central nave was added. It is the result of an expansion that took place in 1794 and according to the project by the architect Giuseppe Maina ended in the early years of the following century. The transept and nave thus form the classic Latin cross plan which is typical of Romanesque churches
Subsequent interventions have determined the current form of the church which has a linear facade that ends with a tympanum, to recall the temples of Greek origin, and on top of it has an octagonal roof plan. A stone portal with a rose window above of it and surrounded on both the right and the left by two niches is the main and only entrance. The recently restored bell tower is right beside it.
Even internally The church has been restored even on the inside except for a baptismal font, some paintings on canvas, the pulpit and above all a crucifix from the 1700s which remain intact and original.
The Parish Church dominates a small square in the historic centre of Teulada, Piazza della Parrocchia, picturesque and characteristic of the area, well cared for and closely linked to the tradition of the town’s festivals.
Every year, in fact, on July 16, this square comes alive on the occasion of the feast of the Madonna del Carmine, patron saint of Teulada, with religious processions and civil ceremonies accompanied by folk songs and dances.
Inside the parish church of the Madonna del Carmelo, there are pictorial works on canvas with sacred content, documents and texts of great historical value, a collection of silverware, objects and artworks that represent a small casket that preserves the historical memory of Teulada.
it is of a late Gothic imprint, it has a hall covered by wooden trusses and has a very simple facade with a bell gable.
You can admire the small church of Sant’Isidoro in the countryside of Teulada where the first settlement must have taken place. The most heartfelt devotion is reserved for Sant’Isidoro, in May and in August.
The festival in honour of Sant’Isidoro, the patron saint of farmers, takes place in August. The statuette of the saint is carried up to the country church during the religious parade and followed by numerous groups in traditional dress who come from all over the island.
This event attracts a significant number of tourists during summer. The sanctuary is located in the plain of Tuerra, where the town stood in the Giudicati age. The raids of the pirates were the reason for the erection of the watchtowers, including one dedicated to Sant’Isidoro and the imposing tower of Budello.
