marmorei. The original building, which might date back to the 17th century, is the transept to which the central nave was added. It is the result of an expansion that took place in 1794 and according to the project by the architect Giuseppe Maina ended in the early years of the following century. The transept and nave thus form the classic Latin cross plan which is typical of Romanesque churches
Subsequent interventions have determined the current form of the church which has a linear facade that ends with a tympanum, to recall the temples of Greek origin, and on top of it has an octagonal roof plan. A stone portal with a rose window above of it and surrounded on both the right and the left by two niches is the main and only entrance. The recently restored bell tower is right beside it.
Even internally The church has been restored even on the inside except for a baptismal font, some paintings on canvas, the pulpit and above all a crucifix from the 1700s which remain intact and original.
The Parish Church dominates a small square in the historic centre of Teulada, Piazza della Parrocchia, picturesque and characteristic of the area, well cared for and closely linked to the tradition of the town’s festivals.
Every year, in fact, on July 16, this square comes alive on the occasion of the feast of the Madonna del Carmine, patron saint of Teulada, with religious processions and civil ceremonies accompanied by folk songs and dances.
Inside the parish church of the Madonna del Carmelo, there are pictorial works on canvas with sacred content, documents and texts of great historical value, a collection of silverware, objects and artworks that represent a small casket that preserves the historical memory of Teulada.
